PG&E gas and electric service (new or upgraded service, meters, load increase): San Francisco restaurant guide

PG&E — Building & Renovation Services

What it is

Any new gas service, larger gas meter, electrical service upgrade or added load for kitchen equipment goes through PG&E's Building & Renovation Service Center; PG&E assigns a representative within five business days of your application.

When a restaurant needs it

New gas cooking line, larger meter, panel/service upgrade, or any new building.

How to apply

Apply in PG&E's Your Projects portal (or call 1-877-743-7782), sign Form 79-1003, and coordinate the meter set with your plumber's DBI-witnessed gas pressure test.

Documents you’ll need

Fee
PG&E engineering and construction costs per its tariffs — not a government fee
Processing time
Representative assigned within 5 business days; design and construction lead times vary by project
Renewal
None
Who files
The owner or contractor applies; PG&E does the utility-side work.

Good to know

Connect with PG&E as soon as the equipment list is set — gas service upgrades are a classic long-lead item. San Francisco's all-electric requirement now applies to some major renovations (heating/hot-water systems) — ask DBI whether your scope triggers it.
