Extended Hours Premises (EHP) permit — open 2 am to 6 am: San Francisco restaurant guide

SF Entertainment Commission

What it is

Required to serve food and non-alcoholic drinks, host entertainment, or run pool tables or games between 2 am and 6 am on a regular basis — the permit for late-night restaurants and after-hours venues.

When a restaurant needs it

Any regular operation after 2 am (alcohol service must still stop at 2 am under state law).

How to apply

Same Commission process as a POE: eligibility email, application, intake meeting, fee, 30-day neighbor notice, inspections and a public hearing.

Documents you’ll need

Fee
Application fee $2,708.00 (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027); amendment $1,305; other departments may bill inspections
Processing time
30-day notice plus hearing
Renewal
Annual
Who files
The business owner applies.

Good to know

Restaurants closing at or before 2 am do not need this permit; hours before 2 am are governed by your Planning approval and ABC license, not a City late-hours license.
