Cal/OSHA Injury & Illness Prevention Program + required workplace postings (state and SF): San Francisco restaurant guide
California DIR / SF Office of Labor Standards Enforcement
What it is
Every California employer must keep a written Injury and Illness Prevention Program and display state posters; San Francisco adds its own posters (Minimum Wage, Paid Sick Leave, Health Care Security Ordinance for 20+ employees, Fair Chance, Family Friendly Workplace, Lactation).
When a restaurant needs it
Before employees start; posters go up where staff can read them.
How to apply
Download the free DIR posters and the OLSE poster set, write the IIPP (Cal/OSHA publishes a model program) and keep it on site.
Documents you’ll need
- Written IIPP with the eight required elements
- State postings (Know Your Rights, minimum wage, payday notice, workers' comp notice, wage order)
- SF OLSE posters
Good to know
OLSE enforces SF's ordinances and can audit payroll; the Health Care Security Ordinance requires a health-care spend for each covered employee once you have 20 or more workers.
