Bay Area Air Quality Management District
What it is
Air-district registration for high-volume charbroilers: chain-driven units at facilities buying 500+ lb of beef per week (cooking 400+ lb), or under-fired charbroilers at facilities buying 1,000+ lb per week (cooking 800+ lb), with emission controls and annual renewal.
When a restaurant needs it
Charbroiling beef above the Regulation 6-2 thresholds; most independent restaurants fall below them.
How to apply
Register each facility in the BAAQMD online permitting system and renew annually.
Documents you’ll need
- Charbroiler make/model and type
- Weekly beef purchase and cooking volumes

Good to know
