SLA Catering Permit (off-premises events): New York City restaurant guide

NYS Liquor Authority

What it is

A per-event permit that lets an active on-premises licensee serve alcohol at a catered private event at a location that isn't licensed (a client's venue, a loft, a backyard). Food must be provided at the event.

When a restaurant needs it

You hold an on-premises license and cater events off-site with alcohol.

How to apply

File online through NY Business Express at least 15 business days before the event; one permit per event.

Documents you’ll need

Fee
$48 per point of sale, per day (SLA permits-available-online page)
Processing time
Minimum 15 business days before the event

Who files
The licensee files; a manager or consultant may file on its behalf.

Good to know

Only active on-premises retail licensees qualify. A business whose main trade is catering private events at its own venue applies instead for a Catering Establishment license (CT 246 liquor: $2,902 + $200 filing in Manhattan/Brooklyn/Queens/Bronx, $2,048 + $200 on Staten Island; WC 354 wine: $750 + $100).
