Commercial waste carting arrangement: New York City restaurant guide

NYC DSNY / BIC

What it is

Businesses must have trade waste removed by a BIC-licensed private carter. Under the Commercial Waste Zones program, each zone has authorized carters and you must sign a CWZ contract with one of them when your zone launches.

When a restaurant needs it

Every business that generates commercial waste.

How to apply

Find your zone with DSNY's Zone Finder, compare the zone-authorized carters (and the maximum-rate calculator), and sign a CWZ service agreement. Self-haulers register with BIC instead.

Good to know

Zones launch in 10 phases starting January 2025; DSNY has posted dates through June 2027 (Phase 8), with the last two phases still unscheduled. If you haven't signed by your zone's final implementation date, DSNY assigns you a carter at the maximum allowable rate.
