Valet Parking Permit + Valet Operator License (Metro Traffic and Parking Commission): Nashville restaurant guide

NDOT / Metro Traffic and Parking Commission

What it is

Permission to run valet drop-off in on-street spaces in front of your restaurant. The valet company needs an annual Valet Operator License, and each location needs a Valet Parking Permit approved by the Traffic and Parking Commission; Metro charges for the right-of-way spaces used.

When a restaurant needs it

Before offering valet in the public right-of-way (private-lot valet needs no Metro permit).

How to apply

Email the Application for Valet Parking (location, spaces, hours, car storage, insurance) and, if the operator isn't already licensed, the Valet Operator License Application to NDOT's parking staff; staff review and the Commission gives final approval.

Documents you’ll need

Fee
Valet parking permit $50 per location (renewal $50 by Oct 15; $30/day late penalty); operator license $100 per year; right-of-way cost-of-use fee $50 + (spaces × $9–$35 per day by district and hours × days × 20%); signage installation $205.35
Processing time
Varies — monthly Commission meetings
Renewal
Annual (renew by October 15)
Who files
The restaurant or its valet contractor applies; the operator license is in the valet company's name.

Good to know

Most restaurants contract a licensed valet company that already holds the operator license; you still pay the location permit and right-of-way fees.
