Natural Gas Service (Piedmont Natural Gas) + Codes Gas Permit and Meter Connection: Nashville restaurant guide
Piedmont Natural Gas / Metro Codes & Building Safety
What it is
Gas-fired cooking needs two things: a Metro Codes gas permit for the piping (with inspection and pressure test) and a Piedmont Natural Gas commercial service account with a meter sized for your appliance load.
When a restaurant needs it
New gas service, a larger meter, or any new or altered gas piping and appliances. Start early — meter upgrades and new taps take weeks.
How to apply
Call Piedmont (877-279-3636) or use its business pages to request new or upgraded commercial service with your total BTU load; your licensed gas/mechanical contractor pulls the Codes gas permit in ePermits and schedules the rough, pressure-test and final inspections; Piedmont sets the meter after Codes releases it.
Documents you’ll need
- Appliance list with BTU ratings (total connected load)
- Site/plumbing plan showing meter location and piping
- Gas contractor license
- Piedmont account information
Good to know
Piedmont's online Gas Advantage portal is aimed at residential builders; commercial restaurant loads are handled through Piedmont's business channels. The Beer Board inspection expects the gas on and pilots lit, so don't leave the meter for last.
