Backflow Prevention (Cross-Connection Control): Nashville restaurant guide
Metro Water Services — Cross Connections Program
What it is
Restaurants are 'high-hazard' customers that need an approved backflow prevention assembly on the water service. MWS inspects and tests it every 12 months.
When a restaurant needs it
All restaurants; checked during the MWS sign-off on your permit or U&O.
How to apply
Your plumber installs a USC-approved assembly directly behind the meter. Indoor installs need an MWS variance. Coordinate through the MWS Cross Connect review on your Codes permit.
Documents you’ll need
- Device make/model (USC-approved list)
- Installation location (variance request if indoors)
Good to know
Indoor installations need 7 ft head clearance, 3 ft front clearance and proper lighting.
