Annual fire protection system certifications (kitchen suppression, sprinklers, alarms): Philadelphia restaurant guide
Philadelphia L&I
What it is
Every year a licensed fire suppression contractor must inspect and certify your kitchen fire-extinguishing (special hazard) system — and sprinkler/standpipe and fire alarm systems if the building has them — and file the certification with L&I in eCLIPSE.
When a restaurant needs it
Annually once the hood suppression system is in service; sprinkler and alarm certifications are the building owner's duty but your lease may pass them to you.
How to apply
Your fire suppression contractor (standard, specialty or kitchen fire extinguishing system license) performs the inspection and submits the certification form in eCLIPSE using the OPA legal address.
Documents you’ll need
- Inspection report from the licensed contractor
- OPA legal address
Good to know
Kitchen fire-extinguishing equipment is a 'special hazard suppression system' under L&I's certification program, so a hood system means an annual filing — not just the semi-annual service tag.
