Natural Gas Service Connection & Meter (Peoples Gas / Florida City Gas): Miami restaurant guide

Peoples Gas (TECO) or Florida City Gas

What it is

Utility work to bring gas to your kitchen: a design site visit, a new or upgraded service line, and a meter sized to your equipment load. The utility's permitting step alone can take 'a few weeks to a few months'.

When a restaurant needs it

If you cook with natural gas and the space has no gas service, or the existing meter cannot handle your new equipment load.

How to apply

Email PGSServiceInstallationRequest@tecoenergy.com or call 877-832-6747 with the service address; the coordinator schedules a design visit, then design, permitting, construction, 'gas on riser' and meter order follow.

Documents you’ll need

Fee
Varies — set by the utility's tariff and contribution-in-aid-of-construction for the service line (not listed on the page).
Processing time
Permitting alone is 'a few weeks to a few months'; start at design.
Renewal
None; monthly billing.
Who files
The owner or MEP engineer requests service; the licensed contractor pulls the City gas sub-permit.

Good to know

Interior gas piping is permitted and pressure-tested under a City of Miami gas sub-permit pulled by a licensed contractor; the utility will not set the meter until the City has approved the piping.
