Fire Protection Permits (Sprinkler, Fire Alarm, Kitchen Hood Suppression): Miami restaurant guide

City of Miami Fire-Rescue — Fire Prevention Bureau / Building Department

What it is

Permits and fire plan review for installing or modifying sprinklers, fire alarms and the kitchen hood fire-suppression system.

When a restaurant needs it

When you add or modify a sprinkler or alarm system, or install a commercial cooking hood with suppression (fryers, griddles, ranges).

How to apply

The licensed fire contractor starts the permit in iBuild (standalone or as a sub-permit), pays upfront fees, and uploads shop drawings and cut sheets to ePlan.

Documents you’ll need

Fee
Varies — upfront fees before upload, then review/permit fees after approval.
Processing time
Varies; often 2–6 weeks.
Renewal
One-time; systems then need periodic inspection and testing tags.
Who files
Filed by the licensed fire protection / alarm contractor (hood ductwork by the licensed mechanical contractor).

Good to know

The City's fire permit page does not separately describe hood suppression permits. Confirm with the Fire Prevention Bureau (305-416-1600) whether yours is filed as a fire or mechanical sub-permit.
