DBPR Food Service Plan Review: Miami restaurant guide

Florida DBPR — Division of Hotels & Restaurants

What it is

State review of your kitchen layout, equipment, sinks, finishes, restrooms and menu for sanitation compliance before you build.

When a restaurant needs it

Required for new construction, conversion of a space not licensed as food service, a kitchen remodel, a menu/concept change, or a space closed 18+ months. Not needed if you take over an unchanged licensed kitchen.

How to apply

Apply in DBPR Online Services, choosing 'Plan Review Only' or 'New License and Plan Review at the Same Time' (fastest).

Documents you’ll need

Fee
Plan Review Fee: $0.
Processing time
Online applications are reviewed within 30 days.
Renewal
One-time per project; remodels of licensed establishments use 'Remodel Plan Review'.
Who files
The owner, architect or a permit consultant can submit online.

Good to know

Get state plan approval before final equipment orders. A missing hand sink or wrong finish found at the opening inspection is expensive to fix.
