Required Workplace Notices — Chicago OLS, Illinois DOL and IWCC posters: Chicago restaurant guide
Chicago Office of Labor Standards / Illinois DOL / IWCC
What it is
Chicago employers must post the City's Minimum Wage, Paid Leave & Paid Sick Leave, Wage Theft, Anti-Retaliation and (if covered) Fair Workweek notices at each Chicago facility, hand the minimum wage, paid leave and Fair Workweek notices to every employee with their first paycheck and again each year within 30 days of July 1. Illinois adds its own posters (Your Rights Under Illinois Employment Laws, Paid Leave for All Workers, VESSA, Consumer Coverage Disclosure, pay transparency for 15+ employees) and the IWCC workers' compensation notice.
When a restaurant needs it
From your first hire; update each July 1 when Chicago's minimum wage changes.
How to apply
Download the current notices from the OLS Public Notices page and IDOL's poster page (free), post them, and distribute copies with the first paycheck and annually.
Documents you’ll need
- Chicago OLS notices: Minimum Wage, Paid Leave/Paid Sick Leave, Wage Theft, Anti-Retaliation, Fair Workweek
- IDOL posters
- IWCC workers' compensation notice (from your carrier)
Good to know
Chicago's Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance gives workers 1 hour of paid leave and 1 hour of paid sick leave per 35 hours worked (up to 40 of each per year), and the Chicago minimum wage (with a shrinking tipped credit) resets every July 1 — read the current OLS notice for the numbers.
