Illinois Allergen Awareness Training (for Certified Managers): Chicago restaurant guide
Illinois Department of Public Health
What it is
Every certified food protection manager working in a Category I restaurant must also complete ANSI-accredited allergen awareness training.
When a restaurant needs it
Within 30 days of employment, then every 3 years.
How to apply
Have each certified manager take an ANSI-accredited allergen awareness course.
Documents you’ll need
- Allergen training certificate for each certified manager
Good to know
The requirement applies to certified managers in restaurants (businesses primarily engaged in selling ready-to-eat food for immediate consumption) that the local health department assigns as Category I (High Risk). Ask CDPH which category your restaurant is in. Keep the completion certificate at the restaurant for inspectors.
