Texas New-Hire Reporting & Required Workplace Posters: Austin restaurant guide
Texas OAG (Child Support Division) / Texas Workforce Commission
What it is
Two no-fee employer duties: report every new or rehired employee to the Texas Attorney General's new-hire program within 20 calendar days of hire, and post the state-required notices (Texas Payday Law / Unemployment Compensation Act poster, workers' compensation coverage status, reporting workplace violence notice in English and Spanish, EITC notice by March 1, EEO if 15+ employees) plus the federal posters.
When a restaurant needs it
From your first hire.
How to apply
Report new hires online through the Texas Employer New Hire Reporting program (or by mail/fax); download the posters free from TWC and post them where staff can see them.
Documents you’ll need
- Employee name, address, SSN, hire date (new-hire report)
- Employer name, address, FEIN
- TWC poster set
- Federal DOL poster set
Good to know
Texas has no state income tax, so there is no state withholding registration — your only state payroll account is the TWC unemployment tax account (register within 10 days of first paying wages). Austin's 2018 paid-sick-leave ordinance never took effect and state law (HB 2127, 2023) now preempts local employment rules, so there is no City labor registration.
