Electrical Sign Permit & '303 Electrical Sign' Inspection (illuminated signs): Austin restaurant guide

City of Austin DSD — Sign Permits / Building & Trade Contractor Services

What it is

When DSD approves a sign permit for an illuminated sign, it automatically generates an electrical permit. That electrical permit must be activated by a master electrician registered with the City as an Electrical Sign Contractor, and the installation must pass the '303 Electrical Sign' inspection before the sign is energized.

When a restaurant needs it

Any new or changed sign that is internally lit, LED, neon, or has attached lighting.

How to apply

Apply for the sign permit in AB+C; after approval your electrical sign contractor activates the auto-generated electrical permit with their PIN and schedules the 303 inspection in AB+C.
