Backflow Prevention Assembly Installation & Annual Testing: Austin restaurant guide

Austin Water — Cross-Connection Control

What it is

Testable backflow assemblies protect the public water supply; they must be tested at installation and every year.

When a restaurant needs it

Whenever plumbing inspections require assemblies (e.g., chemical dispensers, irrigation, auxiliary water) — determined during the building permit process.

How to apply

Your plumber installs the assembly under a plumbing permit; a TCEQ-licensed tester registered with Austin Water tests it and files the report online in WEIRS.
